We are delighted to announce that the Department of Psychology at Stirling has been awarded an Athena Swan Bronze Award! The Athena Swan Charter aims to ensure gender equality in Higher Education. This Bronze Award recognises the steps we are making in the department towards achieving gender equality for our students and staff.

The Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) committee submitted our application late last year, and it was a real team effort involved in putting together the application. We are also incredibly thankful to all of the staff and students in the Department and Faculty who contributed in lots of different ways, such as sharing their experiences in our surveys, helping us find data and reading our draft application.

Our application recognises what we are doing well but also highlights key areas we can continue to work on. As part of the application, we included an ambitious action plan for the next five years. We have already been working hard on delivering some of those actions – one of which was to develop this very website! We have also recently formed ‘undergraduate taskforce’ of students passionate about EDI issues, and we’ll be running a gender awareness session for staff in May. Other plans include improving and developing mentoring for staff and PhD students and increasing our outreach with local schools.

We are very much looking forward to working towards achieving our goals!
